EFE was the first to report that Venezuelan politician Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia left the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, 14 January 2025. His whereabouts in the country were not known from Sunday, 12 January after he had carried out a significant activities agenda since arriving on 8 January 2025.
On 14 January 2025, Diario Libre shared that Gonzalez Urrutia had boarded a private Gulfstream jet operated by the local aviation company Panorama Jets that left from the La Isabela International Airport in northern Santo Domingo to Guatemala. CNN confirmed that Gonzalez Urrutia had traveled to Guatemala. He is scheduled to meet with President Bernardo Arevalo on Wednesday, 15 January.
Gonzalez Urritia had been living in exile in Spain, until traveling on a weeklong tour to the Americas that took him to meet with heads of state in Argentina, Uruguay, the United States, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
Gonzalez Urrutia has the vote rolls for 85% of the population that prove that he won the 28 July 2024 presidential election with a landslide. Nevertheless, Nicolas Maduro secured a Supreme Court of Justice ruling that enabled him to assume his third presidency of Venezuela on 10 January 2025.
