The media is reporting on the lucrative business of smuggling “Viagra” type drugs from the Dominican Republic to Europe. On 11 February 2025, a Dominican 22-year old was arrested in the Barcelona International Airport after arriving with 20,000 Viagra-type pills. The airport authorities uncovered the stash in his luggage after signaling him out for being an overly anxious traveler.
Noticias SIN reports that on 20 January 2025, a 63-year old woman had been arrested for another shipment of 20,000 Viagra pills at the Elche Airport in Alicante, Spain.
As reported, the pills go for around EUR12 in Europe, while in the Dominican Republic, 92 pills can be purchased for around US$60. Pharmacies do not require prescriptions to sell Viagra-type meds. The difference in prices has spurred lucrative black market operations.
Noticias SIN publishes a list of other recent arrests of viagra-type pill traffickers.
