Almuerzo de Negocios shared unconfirmed information that the Abinader administration is studying the construction of a new port for the eastern coast that would go up in the Boca de Yuma area. The port would contemplate a storage tank for fuel, and facilities for cruise ships and cargo destined for the Punta Cana tourism area that now must be trucked in from Santo Domingo province, about two hours away.
Boca de Yuma is about a half an hour drive from Punta Cana International Airport with its numerous water parks and resorts.
The new port would offer tourists excursions to the nearby Saona island, the most booked excursion in the Dominican Republic.
The Port of Authority under the Abinader administration has authorized ports in Manzanillo in the Northwest, San Pedro de Macoris in the Southeast, Samana (Arroyo Barril) in the Northeast and Pedernales-Cabo Rojo in the Southwest.
