
President Luis Abinader was in Las Terrenas on Sunday, 23 February 2025 to be present for the inauguration of the newly reconstructed Pueblo de Pescadores square in Las Terrenas, Samana. The food and night-time recreational area was reopened after major rebuilding following a major fire.
The redesigned Pueblo de Pescadores beach-facing square cost over RD$290 million to rebuild, covering an area of 4,930 square meters. The public space features 10 food vendor modules (including three double-sized ones), two bathrooms, and comprehensive lighting and signage.
Speaking at the inauguration, Tourism Minister David Collado emphasized the government’s commitment to developing Samaná province as a premier tourist destination. He said the Ministry of Tourism has injected RD$1.8 billion in recent years. Since 2020, the Ministry has completed 13 projects in the province for RD$1.1 billion, with an additional seven projects underway for another RD$657 million.
Samana has three main tourist areas – the provincial capital of Samana city on the south side, and Las Terrenas and Las Galeras on the north side of the peninsula.
