DR and Canada get slots to AmeriCup 2025

The Dominican Republic defeated Nicaragua (84-67) in Santo Domingo yet Mexico did not score enough when defeating Canada (98-94) on Monday, 24 February in San Luis de Potosi, Mexico to make the cut. While Group C of the AmeriCup Qualifier ended in a triple tie (6 games and 4 wins and two losses), the two slots would be decided by points differential.

The two countries that won the slots to the AmeriCup 2025 to be held in Managua, Nicaragua in August 2025 are Canada and the Dominican Republic. For Mexico to grab the slot it needed to win by a margin of 17 points.

Canada barely made it. Fiba reported that after sweeping their first 4 games, Canada had ended the Qualifiers on a sour note after dropping their final 2 contests. However, their 4-2 record and +14-point differential in the triple tie with Mexico and Dominican Republic enabled the team to finish atop Group C.

Thus the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers came to an end on Monday, 24 February 2024, defining the 12 national teams that will participate in the continental tournament, which will be held from 22 to 31 August at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua.

After a total of 47 games played across three qualifying windows in February and November 2024 and February 2025, these are the teams set to compete in the FIBA AmeriCup 2025: Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, the United States, Uruguay and Venezuela.
