Minister Eddy Olivares / CDN

President Luis Abinader will facilitate discussions on 26 February 2025 with members of the National Wage Committee (Comité Nacional de Salarios) to break the stalemate over the proposed minimum wage increase. The business sector (Confederación Patronal) has proposed a 10% increase. The labor sector (Consejo Nacional de Unidad Sindical) proposes a 30% hike. President Abinader had proposed a 20% increase when discussing inflation and wages during a weekly Monday press conference. Labor Minister Eddy Olivares represents the government in the discussions.

The meeting, scheduled for 2pm at the Ministry of Labor, will bring together representatives from both the business sector and trade unions, according to a Tuesday night announcement from the Presidency.

A previously scheduled meeting of the National Wage Committee on Tuesday midday was suspended due to ongoing disagreements between employers and trade unions regarding the proposed minimum wage adjustment.

Minister of Labor Eddy Olivares understands the 20% proposed by the President meets both groups half the way. He expects the National Wage Committee to decide the matter on Wednesday, 26 February. By law, the National Wage Committee is to be convened to review the minimum wage every two years.
