Minister of Tourism David Collado announced the government will fund the construction of a new tourist pier in the municipal district of Caleta, La Romana province. Caleta is a public beach and restaurant area that primarily caters to the local population. The project, with an investment of RD$30,773,790, aims to boost tourism and fishing in the area.
Collado emphasized that the modern pier will have a significant economic impact on the development of tourism and fishing in Caleta and its surrounding areas. “With the construction of this pier, we are addressing a long-standing and justified demand from this municipal district,” Collado stated. “We are fulfilling our initiative to revitalize coastal areas and move away from neglecting the sea.”
The pier’s design includes a 3-meter-wide walkway, extending 30.15 linear meters over the sea. At its southern end, the pier will feature two walkways, each 27 linear meters long, and five docks, each 5.40 linear meters long. The structure will be finished with synthetic wood and include lighting and safety railings. Additionally, a breakwater will be constructed to mitigate wave energy and reduce erosion, protecting the pier, the beach, and the surrounding environment.
The project is being managed by the Ministry of Tourism’s Executive Committee of Tourist Zone Infrastructure (Ceiztur). This project is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Tourism to enhance La Romana’s tourism infrastructure and diversify its offerings, including the ongoing development of the Caleta boardwalk. With this new project, the Ministry of Tourism’s total investment in La Romana under the current administration reaches RD$156,943,189.
Tourists and locals already have two other port facilities in La Romana. These are the La Romana facilities in the river, and the Marina de Casa de Campo. The nearby Bayahibe/Dominicus beach area has a major area used by smaller craft that make the commute to Saona Island.
