Chamber of Deputies selects pre-candidates for auditing body

The Chamber of Deputies has moved to overhaul the nation’s auditing body, the Chamber of Accounts, by selecting pre-candidates and excluding all current members who sought to stay. This decision signals a potential shift in the oversight of public funds, following a period marked by internal conflicts and perceived ineffectiveness within the existing Chamber.

A committee within the Chamber of Deputies finalized its selection of 25 individuals, forming five distinct groups of candidates. These names will now proceed to the Senate for final approval, where five individuals will be chosen to lead the Chamber of Accounts.

As reported in Diario Libre, the selection process involved a review of nearly 193 applicants. Notable among the selected candidates is Emma Polanco Melo de Mercedes, former rector of the UASD.

The Chamber of Deputies will now narrow the list down from five groups of five, to three groups of five, before sending it to the Senate.

The current members of the Chamber of Accounts were not selected to continue their positions.
The exclusion of the current Chamber of Accounts members comes after a period of reported internal disputes and criticisms regarding their performance.
