
The Central Electoral Board (JCE) continues to socialize its plans to issue a new ID card. The president of the JCE Roman Andres Jaquez Liranzo met with the Conference of the Dominican Episcopate (CED), the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church. He presented the overview of the plans to and importane of the new ID and the importance of the project that includes a widespread audit to the civil registry. The JCE has already detected possible irregularities around three million of the ID cards issued by the organization. The new IDs calls for a purge of those who cannot sustain their identity. The purge is expected to bring major resistance by those who have irregularly acquired their identity cards.
During the meeting with the episcopate, Monsignor Hector Rafael Rodriguez, metropolitan bishop of Santiago, who presides the CED, recommended that the JCE plenary present the ID initiative key points to each of the 11 Catholic districts in the country. The JCE agreed to the extra effort to communicate the importance and scope of the new identity and voting card.
