
The Dominican Republic Aquatic Sports Federation (FEDDA) announces the 10th Dominican Republic International Swim Open & 2025 National Championship is taking place this year from 11 to 13 April at the Santiago Swimming Pool Complex on the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra University Campus in Santiago de los Caballeros, about an hour and a half hour drive from the capital city of Santo Domingo. Most visitors, nevertheless, will be arriving via Santiago’s Cibao International Airport.
The international competition will serve as a qualifying event for the 21st FINA World Championships in Singapore 2025, the Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay 2025, the 2025 Junior World Swimming Championships, and the Pan American Swimming Championships in Medellín 2025.
Nearly 500 swimmers from 13 countries have registered for the meet. Swimmers are coming from the United States, Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Colombia, Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Aruba, Peru, El Salvador, and the host nation, the Dominican Republic.
The venue was originally built for the 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games. It has an eight-lane, 50-meter pool and a 25-meter warm-up pool. The event features 17 individual events in both male and female categories, as well as three relay events. The competition will be officiated by World Aquatics-certified judges.
The event this year is dedicated to neurosurgeon Jose Joaquin Puello Herrera, a former president of the Dominican Olympic Committee and sailor, for his contribution to Dominican medicine and sports.
The event has the backing of the Ministry of Sports, the Santiago City Hall, Creso, the Dominican Olympic Committee and private sponsorships.
