Veteran journalist Manuel Quiterio Cedeño awarded 2025 National Journalism Prize

Manuel Quiterio Cedeño has been named the recipient of the 2025 National Journalism Prize, a prestigious recognition of his extensive career and significant contributions to the development of journalism and communication in the Dominican Republic, Listin Diario reports. The award comes with a RD$1 million deposit.

The announcement was jointly made by the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) and the Dominican Association of Journalists (CDP). Cedeño was unanimously selected by the jury members.

According to a press release, upon receiving news of the award from Minister of Education Luis Miguel De Camps, Cedeño expressed his gratitude and pride in receiving such a distinguished honor.

“I thank you, and I want to assure you that my work is not finished. I will continue to be a journalist, teaching at the university, working in communication until my last day,” stated the veteran journalist.

Born in Higüey, La Altagracia province, Manuel Quiterio Cedeño developed a keen interest in journalism from a young age. This passion led him to pursue a degree in Communication Sciences at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), where he notably served as the director of the student newspaper.

His professional journey began at the now-defunct evening newspaper Última Hora and continued at the daily El Sol, where he garnered recognition for his professionalism and his ability to tackle the most pertinent social issues.

Cedeño boasts over four decades of experience in the media. In 1979, he co-founded the newspaper El Nuevo Diario, and in 1984, he assumed the directorship of the press department at the Ministry of Foreign Relations. That same year, he established the Center for Information and Communication (Cicom), a pioneering firm offering strategic communication services with a particular focus on the tourism sector.
