Investment visa process gets easier

In a move aimed at boosting foreign investment and generating more jobs for Dominicans, the Ministry of Foreign Relations (Mirex) and the Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana) have agreed to streamline the issuing and renewing investment residency visas, as well as business visas for work purposes.

Under the agreement, investors will be able to submit their applications through the Virtual Single Investment Window of the Dominican Republic (VUIRD). This online platform aims to become an efficient tool for receiving the necessary documentation and will provide personalized follow-up from ProDominicana throughout the entire process.

The agreement, signed by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and ProDominicana executive director Biviana Riveiro Disla, formalizes a joint effort to further establish the Dominican Republic as an attractive and secure destination for foreign direct investment.

“This joint effort lays the foundation for further strengthening our economy,” stated Minister Álvarez. “Promoting our nation in international markets is undoubtedly a key strategy to bolster our productive sectors, generate employment, and improve the quality of life for Dominicans through foreign investment and the promotion of exports, as established in the second pillar of the Dominican Republic’s foreign policy.”

Minister Álvarez emphasized that the agreement exemplifies the value of inter-institutional cooperation and coordinated work between the public and private sectors. “Only through strategic alliances can we continue to foster a favorable environment for investment and project an image of stability, legal certainty, and efficiency in our processes to the world.”

ProDominicana executive director Riveiro Disla highlighted the particular relevance of the agreement, noting that the visa and residency service for foreign investors and businesses is an essential component in attracting foreign direct investment to the country. “By facilitating this process through the VUIRD, we are creating a more conducive environment for international investors to establish themselves and operate in our country with greater ease,” she said.

She further stated that by incorporating Mirex’s visa service into the VUIRD, the country is taking a significant step towards simplifying and modernizing the procedures for investors.

The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Relations, was attended by the Vice Minister for Consular and Migration Affairs of Mirex, Opinio Díaz; the chief of staff, Juan José Portorreal; and other Mirex directors. Representing ProDominicana were Marcial Smester, investment director; Sorangel Díaz, interim director of Strategic Innovation; Filgia Domínguez, manager of the Single Investment Window; Patricia Cano, manager of Inter-institutional Relations; and Anel Lluberes, legal counsel.
