Aeromexico has officially launched a new daily direct flight between Mexico City and Punta Cana, a strategic move aimed at bolstering tourism and strengthening the ties between Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The inaugural flight touched down on Thursday, 26 June 2025, marking a significant expansion for the airline in the Caribbean.
The new route, which will operate throughout the summer, offers seamless connections from 40 destinations across Mexico, making it easier for travelers from various Mexican cities to reach Punta Cana. The flights will be serviced by Boeing 737 aircraft, featuring both premier and tourist cabins.
This adds approximately 10,000 monthly seats to Aeromexico’s offerings, doubling the airline’s current capacity to the Dominican Republic, which already includes 10,000 seats on the Mexico City-Santo Domingo route. Aeromexico offers daily flights from Las Americas International Airport (SDQ).
Aeromexico flies into the Mexican capital city (MEX) Benito Juarez International Airport, preferred by many over the out of town airport of ANL.
On occasion of the inaugural flight, Giancarlo Mulinelli, senior vice president of flobal sales for Aeromexico spoke of the airline’s pride in the Dominican Republic being part of their expansion. He congratulated Tourism Minister David Collado for efforts in promoting travel between the two countries.
The PUJ-MEX connection is a milestone for Aeromexico, as Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) becomes its 100th destination. Punta Cana is a premier Caribbean tourist destination, handling 60 percent of the Dominican Republic’s air traffic.
The direct flight schedule is as follows:
• Mexico City – Punta Cana: Departure 8:55 AM | Arrival 3:40 PM
• Punta Cana – Mexico City: Departure 5:01 PM | Arrival 8:10 PM
The new connection further reinforces the growing number of Mexican visitors to the Caribbean. In 2024, over 115,000 Mexican travelers visited the Dominican Republic, a 33% increase from the previous year, with 44,116 arriving in the first four months of 2025 alone.
With this expansion, Aeromexico reaffirms its commitment to boosting tourism and air connectivity between Mexico and the Dominican Republic, a preferred Caribbean destination known for its stunning beaches, cuisine, and diverse hotel offerings. It also opens new opportunities for Dominicans to explore Mexico City, one of the world’s most captivating capitals.
Aeromexico competes on the route with the new direct flight launched by Arajet, the Dominican Republic-based low cost airline. Arajet flies into the Felipe Angeles International Airport (ANL).
