The Dominican Republic is hosting the 10th Summit of the Americas from 1 to 5 December 2025 in Punta Cana. And Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez says he does not know which Presidents will come but people can expect some of the most high profile business people will be here from all around the Americas to talk business.
The theme of the summit will be “Building a safe, secure, and sustainable hemisphere with shared prosperity.”
Minister of Foreign Relations Roberto Alvarez, who heads the local organizing commission, explained that the 10th Summit, as previous summits, is really four summits in one. These are the Presidents and Ministers of Foreign Relations (high level regional politics) summit, the business community summit, a youth summit and a civil society summit.
He acknowledged that given the present hemispheric uncertainties, the invitations to the Presidents have not been issued. He mentioned in an interview with Mariasela Alvarez for Esta Noche con Mariasela that the invitations to the high-level political talks are likely to go out in October 2025.
Meanwhile, Alvarez once again says that the Dominican Republic has been concentrating on organizing the business summit and has sent out around 2,000 invitations to the most influential business people in the Americas.
The Summit of the Americas gatherings were begun in 1994 by then US President Bill Clinton. Frank Rainieri and his wife Haydee Rainieri are active in the organizing of the summit, especially now that the summit is scheduled for Punta Cana, 1 to 5 December 2025. The business summit is scheduled for 3 and 4 December.
In giving the first formal press conference on the 10th Summit from the Ministry of Foreign Relations convention center, Foreign Minister Alvarez said that all efforts are being unfolded to strengthen regional cooperation, promote political talks at the highest level and the deciding on taking concrete actions to common threats. He mentioned that the full scope of human security is a focus of the talks, including citizen security, food security, energy security, and water security.
“Once again, our country has the opportunity to open its doors and be part of a historic dialogue, serving as host to a high-level international event. This is the moment to showcase the very best of our land and our people — to strengthen our global presence, attract foreign investment and cooperation, deepen ties with other nations, and take part in a dialogue that leads us down a path of security, well-being, and shared prosperity,” said Foreign Minister Alvarez to those in attendance when announcing the upcoming summit.
The Summits of the Americas are periodic meetings of heads of state and government of the sovereign states of the Americas that have taken place every three years on average since 1994 to address shared political issues, affirm common values, and commit to concerted actions at the national and regional levels to address present and future challenges facing the region.
