Mayors are millionaires, many do not disclose their worth

When it comes to wealth in the country, mayors command a striking share of the pie, Diario Libre reports. Out of the 158 mayors currently in office, 112 have declared assets totaling RD$4.46 billion, according to the most recent sworn statements submitted to the Chamber of Accounts between April 2024 and July 2025.

Diario Libre reports that the 15 Dominican mayors who have disclosed the most worth are:
San Jose de las Matas: Ramón Reyes Estévez (Net worth RD$747.7 million)
Cotuí: José Eugenio Montilla de la Cruz (Net worth RD$230.9 million)
Constanza: Francisco Antonio Marte Hernández (Net worth RD$155.8 million)
San Francisco de Macoris: Antonio Díaz Paulino (Net worth RD$136.4 million)
San Rafael del Yuma: Francisco Antonio Rodríguez Aponte (Net worth RD$115.3 million)
Higuey: Karen Magdalena Aristy Cedeño (Net worth RD$112.7 million)
Comendador: Liriano Morillo Valdez (Net worth RD$105.9 million)
National District: Rosa Carolina Mejía Gómez (Net worth RD$103.9 million)
Jimaní: Laureano Santana Cuevas (Net worth: RD$85 million)
Boca Chica: Ramón Arístides Candelaria Santana (Net worth RD$82.2 million)
San José de Ocoa: Fernando Antonio Castillo Casado (Net worth RD$79.3 million)
Las Yayas de Viajama: Carmen Nelia Ramírez Veloz (Net worth RD$75.5 million)
Mao: Yohendy Jiménez Bonilla (Net worth RD$72.3 million)

Diario Libre points out that 46 municipal leaders have not complied with the obligation to post their worth declarations, while for another 14 the records are outdated. Of the 158 mayors, 32 had not carried out their declarations to the Chamber of Accounts.
