For the second consecutive year, President Luis Abinader did not give the traditional state of the nation address to coincide with the opening of the second half session of Congress on 16 August 2025. Last year, the excuse was that the President was concentrating on showing solidarity for the victims of the collapse of the store in San Cristobal on 14 August. This 2025, the Presidency said the President was busy with preparations for the passing of Hurricane Erin, that was marking Category 3-5 as it moved through the Caribbean.
President Luis Abinader is regarded as the most accessible President of all times. He is constantly speaking to the population. He is also accessible to journalists during the weekly press conference on Monday that he has sustained for years.
Meanwhile, the majority ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in the Senate and Chamber of Deputies voted to reelect the officials that preside these legislative chambers. Alfredo Pacheco (National District – PRM) will continue to decide for the Chamber of Deputies and Ricardo de los Santos, also of the PRM, repeats for the Senate.
Alfredo Pacheco announced the next congressional session would be on Wednesday, 20 August at 11am.
