Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is the regional airport receiving flights from the most airlines and most destinations in Latin America. FL Technics, with headquarters in Vilnius, Lithuania, is now installing a regional giant for aircraft maintenance, repair and overall services (MRO). Having a Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) Center at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is critical to ensure the safety and efficiency of air operations in the region.
The MRO center is located in the new Logistics Park of the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone (Grupo Puntacana and DP World Logistics Center) in an area of 115,588 m2 of land. Zilvinas Lapinskas, CEO of FL Technics, explains it is the first infrastructure project to be developed from ground up in the Americas. The new infrastructure will service Airbus A320F and Boeing 737NG and Max, serving as support to airlines operating in North, South and Central America.
The new center is also a major opportunity for young people in the Dominican Republic. The company will be implementing training programs with jobs guaranteed to the better graduates. These are highly skilled jobs. Training starts 20 November 2025 in Punta Cana at the new MRO center in Punta Cana International Airport.
“The Dominican Republic has never been an aircraft MRO hub —and that’s exactly why we see such incredible potential here,” Žilvinas Lapinskas, CEO of FL Technics Group, explained in the interview with Diario Libre. FL Technics estimates there is a projected global need for more than 400,000 aircraft maintenance technicians over the next decade. The aviation industry is facing an urgent talent gap.
“There’s a clear need for skilled aviation professionals, and we know it takes years of dedicated learning, hands-on training, and certification to build true expertise. Our goal is to create a long-term learning ecosystem, where young people from the Dominican Republic and across the region can grow from apprentices into licensed aviation specialists. This isn’t just about jobs —it’s about careers, pride, and putting the Caribbean on the global aviation map.”
FL Technics plans to implement “train-to-hire” programs in partnership with local universities, maintenance schools, and vocational institutions, creating clear pathways into aviation careers. The Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil (IDAC) aviation maintenance technician (Técnico de Mantenimiento de Aeronaves) license includes two ratings —airframe and powerplant— each requiring 24 months of hands-on experience, as well as both theoretical and practical examinations.
In an interview with Diario Libre, FL Technics CEO Žilvinas Lapinskas, CEO de FL Technics Group gave an update on the works for the new center. He said it is going up in three phases, with the first the construction of the 20,000 m² hangar and support workshops for an overall infrastructure of 52,000 m². Phase two will double capacity to 12 bays and phase three will increase these to 20 bays, positioning the center among the largest in Latin America.
