25-year old Russian Dmitrii Novikov was arrested in the Dominican Republic. He was living with relatives in a villa in the Palmas del Sol II in the Bavaro section of Punta Cana.
The Attorney General Office says that he worked from here on the project known as Lakhta or The Company and carried out actions to spread disinformation and manipulate Internet platforms. The Attorney General Office said that the campaigns were directed at Dominican audiences and abroad, specifically mentioning Argentina.
Barrons covered the arrest and reported that the US Treasury Department says Project Lakhta is a Russian disinformation campaign targeting audiences in the United States, Europe, Ukraine and even Russia itself.
