Abinader and Collado inaugurate new road to Aguas Blancas Waterfall

President Luis Abinader and Minister of Tourism David Collado on 19 September 2025 officially opened the newly reconstructed access road to the stunning Aguas Blancas waterfall. The infrastructure cost more than RD$484.9 million and promises to be a game-changer for ecotourism in the mountain region.

The road had already been open for months to the general public. The 11.93-kilometer road is intended to significantly increase visitor traffic to the impressive natural site, that now is more accessible to both local and international tourists.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Collado highlighted the project’s dual purpose: to address a long-standing community request and to boost the local economy.

“This work will guarantee that more tourists visit this incredible natural destination,” Collado stated. “That will undoubtedly have a direct impact on the economy of the area, making this access road a new beginning for the development of ecotourism here.”

The minister also emphasized that promoting ecological tourism is a key part of the Ministry of Tourism’s strategy to showcase the Dominican Republic as a more diverse destination.

Supervised by the Committee for the Execution of Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (Ceiztur), the project included a complete overhaul of the road surface, paving, and an improved drainage system with new culverts and gutters. Additionally, the project added new sidewalks, curbs, and a new photo spot with a sign, a parking area, safety railings, and new lighting.

Located within the Valle Nuevo National Park, the Aguas Blancas waterfall is a major natural attraction, situated about 20 kilometers from the town of Constanza. At over 83 meters, it is one of the highest waterfalls in the Caribbean, rivaling the Salto La Jalda. The area’s natural beauty makes it a popular spot for adventure tourism and hiking enthusiasts.

The facility includes an area where people can actually bathe in a pool of freezing water adjacent to where the waters fall in the background.

Because of the cold temperatures of the waters, bathing is only recommended in the summertime and during the warmest times of the day.

The visit to Constanza can be a day trip or a weekend or more. Constanza has several hotel and rental accommodations. There are good restaurants in the center of town.
