The Dominican Republic’s women’s volleyball team, the B team with a new generation of players, fought their way to a bronze medal at the Norceca Final Six tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. The team, affectionately known as the “Queens of the Caribbean,” relied on the breakout performances of Madeline Guillén, Alondra Tapia, and Massiel Matos and secured bronze in the event, El Nacional reports.
In a thrilling five-set showdown for third place, the Dominicans overcame a formidable challenge from Puerto Rico, winning 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13). Guillén led all scorers with 24 points, followed by Tapia with 17 and Matos with 13.
Head coach Marcos Kwiek praised his team’s resilience and said the Final Six tournament had been a key learning experience. “It was a good match,” Kwiek said. “The players have to get used to this level of play and pressure. It’s good for their growth. It’s good that they go through these situations so they can grow as players and know that nothing is easy.”
Individual accolades were also earned, with Madeline Guillén named the tournament’s Best Attacker and Top Scorer. On the defensive end, Yaneirys Rodríguez was honored as both the Best Libero and Best Defender.
The bronze medal adds to the legacy of the “Queens of the Caribbean” in the Final Six tournament, which now includes three golds (2021, 2022, 2024) and a silver in 2023 and the bronze in 2025.
