AmCham celebrates Dominican Week in NY and DC

Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez and Industry & Commerce Minister Victor (Ito) Bisono are in Washington, D.C. for the American Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Dominican Week in USA. The event, started by late lawyer Luis Heredia Bonetti, is in its 33rd year.

Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez attended on 29 September 2025 the opening of the Dominican Week in the United States. The initiative seeks to highlight the Dominican Republic as a trustworthy business partner, focusing on nearshoring, logistics, innovation, legal and financial services, intellectual property, and diaspora relations.

The ceremony took place at the Dominican Embassy Residence in Washington, with the participation of Ambassador María Isabel Castillo Báez, OAS Ambassador Mayerlyn Cordero, business leaders, and diplomatic representatives from both nations.

The Dominican Week in the USA (Semana Dominicana en Estados Unidos) is an exclusive, high-level mission orchestrated by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AmChamDR). Its primary goal is to reinforce bilateral trade relations, deepen bonds with the Dominican community in the United States, and jointly manage common interests between the two nations.

The 33rd edition is being held from 29 September to 2 October in Washington DC and New York. A mission of over 35 participants is attending from the Dominican Republic.

The delegation’s agenda focuses on elevating initiatives and promoting the diverse productive sectors within the American Chamber of Commerce in the DR membership. Key areas of discussion include:
Nearshoring & Logistics, Rule of Law, Commercial Policy with the US, Summit of the Americas, Energy, Innovation, Secure Network, Capital Markets, and Tourism and Investment.

The annual event serves as a crucial platform for advocacy, seeking to promote trade, investment, and policy positions beneficial to the sustained economic growth and stability of the Dominican Republic.

A press release from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce highlights the importance of the event:

“The core mission of the visit is to solidify the Caribbean nation’s position as a key partner for stability and nearshoring in the region. Bisonó stated in a press release on his participation. He says: “The leadership of the Dominican Republic in economic and regional security issues is increasingly recognized by the world’s leading power. We are here to ensure that our country remains the most strategic partner of the United States in the Caribbean.”

• The White House: Bisonó will address the security of the supply chain and push for the Dominican Republic’s inclusion in high-value-added initiatives, specifically in the semiconductor and medical device industries.
• The State Department: Meetings here will focus on securing commercial and investment policies to guarantee market access and technical support for Dominican businesses.
• The Pentagon: Discussions will center on regional economic security and strengthening the DR’s role as a reliable logistical hub—a theme increasingly relevant to U.S. defense and commercial interests.

Bisonó’s pitch to US businesses is on the local competitive advantages, highlighting its progress in legal security and productive diversification. The focus is on attracting more investment for advanced manufacturing, including medical devices and semiconductors, and agro-industry.
