Abinader touts DR as logistics hub of the Caribbean

President Luis Abinader extolled the main assets of the Dominican Republic that make the country a prime location as a logistic, sustainable and democratic reference point in the Caribbean when speaking at the principal session of the World Government Summit-Latin America and the Caribbean Dialogue held in Punta Cana.

Luis Abinader, President of the Dominican Republic, affirmed that the partnership with the World Governments Summit (WGS) strengthens a vital bridge between Latin America and the United Arab Emirates.

The President emphasized that by deepening cooperation in the fields of innovation, trade, and good governance, both sides are expanding opportunities for their people and building a more competitive, resilient, and prosperous region.

President Abinader highlighted that the Dominican Republic is ready to consolidate itself and become the trustworthy logistics center for Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East. To back up his words, the President noted that the Dominican Republic has eight international airports, and 182 daily flights to 170 destinations, as well as well-regarded port facilities such as Puerto Caucedo, the multi-modal port operated by DP World. A logistics center is now also operated by DP World adjacent to the Punta Cana International Airport.

Abinader called on the various delegations to strengthen regional integration and cooperation since Latin America has the human talent and resources needed to carry out greater roles on the international stage.

President Abinader stressed the vital role of tourism, trade, and innovation in building a comprehensive landscape of prosperity and sustainable development. He pointed to the transformation of his nation’s leadership model from one focused on resilience to one enabled by strategic investment, where national visions can extend regionally and leave a long-lasting impact.

The WGS Latin America and Caribbean Dialogue – organised as a follow-up to the high-level roundtable on Latin American investments held during WGS 2025 – aimed to strengthen foresight-driven cross-border dialogue, explore shared strategic priorities for the Middle East, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and identify opportunities for cooperation that maximize positive impact for participating societies.
