Vehicle permit renewal for 2025-2026 is on, targeting RD$3.4 billion in revenue

The General Tax Agency (DGII) officially began the renewal period for the Vehicle Circulation Tax (Marbete) 2025-2026 on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, calling on vehicle owners to comply promptly to avoid penalties.

The agency announced that the process applies to 2,086,756 eligible vehicles, with an estimated revenue target of RD$3,433,806,000.00.

The cost of the annual vehicle permit (el marbete) remains the same as the previous period, based on the vehicle’s manufacturing year:
RD$1,500.00 for vehicles manufactured up to the year 2020.
RD$3,000.00 for vehicles manufactured from 2021 onwards.

Vehicle owners have multiple options to complete the renewal process, both digitally and in person:
Electronic renewal: Available on the DGII’s website (www.dgii.gov.do) and the DGII Móvil app until Sunday, 18 January 2026.
In-person renewal: Available at 47 authorized financial institutions with 856 nationwide branches, as well as at the DGII collection offices in Villa Vásquez (Montecristi) and Sánchez (Samaná). The deadline for in-person renewal without a surcharge is Saturday, 31 January 2026.

Mandatory requirement: For any renewal method, including retrieving orders placed online or via the mobile app, it is mandatory to present a photocopied vehicle registration certificate (matrícula) that is updated, legible, and in good condition.

The DGII strongly urged taxpayers to renew on time, as substantial penalties will be applied to those who fail to meet the established deadlines:
RD$2,000.00 surcharge: For vehicles renewed after 31 January 2026.
RD$2,100.00 total penalty: For vehicles that failed to renew the 2024-2025 marbete (RD$2,000.00 non-renewal fine + RD$100.00 administrative cessation fee).
RD$3,100.00 total penalty: For vehicles that failed to renew the 2023-2024 marbete or previous years (RD$3,000.00 non-renewal fine + RD$100.00 administrative cessation fee).

The tax authority reminds all drivers that timely renewal is essential to comply with the law and avoid financial sanctions.
