New York Mets slugger and one of Major League Baseball’s highest-paid stars, Juan Soto, made a surprise appearance at the San Felipe Port in Puerto Plata on Monday, 27 October 2025. El Nuevo Diario reports that it wasn’t for a baseball exhibition.
The 25-year-old Dominican-born outfielder was at the port’s Customs Agency to personally handle the paperwork and pay the requisite import taxes for a luxury vehicle shipped from the United States: a high-end, special-edition Mercedes-Benz G 500 (G-Wagon).
The vehicle—a cream-colored, 2026 model year SUV—is a collector’s item. It features a powerful 3,000 CC, six-cylinder turbo engine, automatic transmission, and 4WD Full-Time capability. Significantly, it is part of a special production run with only 450 units ever manufactured. El Nuevo Diario says it has a price tag of US$286,000.
Throughout his 10 seasons in MLB, Soto has amassed a career batting average of .285 and a slugging percentage of .532, totaling 932 hits, 201 home runs, and 592 RBIs over 336 games. He has played for the Washington Nationals (2018-2022), San Diego Padres (2022-2023), New York Yankees (2024), and is now a key part of the New York Mets organization.
