Abinader unveils major logistics hub at Punta Cana International Airport, touting regional dominance and job growth

President Luis Abinader announced on Monday, 10 November 2025 that he will inaugurate a massive new logistics hub at Punta Cana International Airport this Wednesday, a project poised to significantly bolster the nation’s competitiveness and cement its status as the predominant logistics center of the Caribbean and Latin America.

The President made the declaration during his weekly press engagement, “LA Semanal con la Prensa,” held this week in Punta Cana, La Altagracia province.

When questioned about the impact of recent sector investments, Abinader underscored the importance of the new facility, stating, “We are already a great logistics hub. Next Wednesday (12 November), we will inaugurate the Punta Cana airport logistics hub, which will be of great importance.”

The President emphasized that the new infrastructure complements other strategic national projects, such as the Port of Caucedo and the Port of Manzanillo (currently under construction), aligning with his administration’s four-year goal to transform the Dominican Republic into a regional logistics powerhouse.

“We are fulfilling the projection we established four years ago: to convert the Dominican Republic into a logistics hub,” Abinader noted. “We are already important and are on our way to becoming the predominant one in the region.”

Central to the project is the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone (PCFTZ), an innovative development backed by an investment exceeding $200 million. The PCFTZ is designed to integrate air, maritime, and land logistics operations, alongside a dedicated technology innovation center.

Beyond the economic impact on trade, President Abinader highlighted the significant social benefits, particularly in generating employment.

“The Punta Cana airport hub is not only relevant for the cargo it will manage but for the thousands of jobs it has already generated and will continue to generate, just like our other ports,” he concluded.
