Vice President Raquel Peña and First Lady Raquel Arbaje led the Christmas tree-lighting ceremony at the Presidential Palace on Monday, 24 November 2025. Dozens of children and employees from the government house and their families joined the event that began with the blessing of Father Kelvis Acevedo of the San Rafael Arcángel Chapel at the Presidential Palace.
First Lady Raquel Arbaje and Vice President Raquel Peña shared a message focused on the importance of family unity and the hope inspired by this season. Both led the most anticipated moment of the event: the lighting of the tree and the garden lights, which officially signalled the start of the Christmas season at the seat of government.
The atmosphere was filled with music with performances by the Dominican National Children’s Choir and the Koribe coral group, who delighted those present with carols and emblematic Christmas songs. The children enjoyed a space specially prepared for family fun with face painting, sweets, and iconic Christmas characters.
