The Aguilas Cibaeñas are the first winter professional baseball team to ensure their participation in the semi-finals. The team has a standing of 19 wins and only four losses, too many wins to be eliminated from the cut of four. Four teams move on after the regular season concludes in December. The other five teams all still have a chance at making the cut.
A feature in Diario Libre observes that this could be a playoff without a capital city team. Yet all the other teams are equally far away. The closest is the Toros del Este (La Romana) that is 8.5 games away, followed by the Estrellas Orientales (San Pedro de Macoris), Leones del Escogido (Santo Domingo), Tiugres del Licey (Santo Domingo), 10.5 games away. The Gigantes del Cibao is in the last position, 11 games away.
