According to the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), the Dominican Republic is becoming a preferred Caribbean destination for Mexican travelers, with a 38% year-over-year increase in Mexican visitors between January and October 2025. A recent statistical report indicates peak travel months and details visitor demographics and preferred entry points in both Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
The Ministry of Tourism reports that the Dominican Republic (DR) is rapidly solidifying its status as the preferred Caribbean getaway for Mexican travelers, experiencing a remarkable surge in visitor numbers. The boom is fueled by affordable fares offered by competing airlines, including Aeromexico (Mexico) and Arajet (Dominican Republic). Aeromexico flies into Mexico City’s (MEX) airport and Arajet to the newer NLU airport.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the increase in Mexican visitors underscores a major shift in Mexican travel patterns, favoring the rich culture and renowned beaches of the DR.
“The Dominican Republic is becoming a top-tier destination for our Mexican friends,” commented a Mitur spokesperson. “We are thrilled to see such enthusiasm for our country and are committed to enhancing the travel experience for this vital market.”
Mexican travel is primarily family tourism with peaks during key holiday periods and school breaks. The weddings segment is also growing, with the resorts in Punta Cana picking up most of the flow.
