Tourism Minister David Collado announced that the country is preparing an ambitious Sports Tourism Strategy that will be unveiled at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Spain in January 2026. The International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR 2026, will be held in Madrid from 21 to 25 January 2026 in Madrid, Spain.
The strategy, centered around hosting major international sporting events, is designed to solidify the Dominican Republic’s reputation as a world-class destination.
“Initiatives such as PGA Corales, Oceanman, Ironman, the República Dominicana Open (ATP), Master of the Ocean, Master Surf Reunion, Cabarete Pro, Noches de Leyendas, the Central American and Caribbean Games, and other high-level events reinforce our tourism offering,” Minister Collado stated on his X account.
Collado emphasized the multifaceted benefits of this approach, noting that these events successfully combine sport, experience, and international exposure, leading to a positive impact on both the national economy and the country’s brand image.
