Dominican Republic sees 8% tourism surge in January despite flight disruptions for snow storms

The Dominican Republic’s tourism sector has kicked off 2026 with robust growth, recording an 8% increase in visitor arrivals this January compared to the same period last year. The Ministry of Tourism reports arrivals of 1,155,485 visitors in January 2026.

Minister of Tourism David Collado announced the figures during a visit to San Pedro de Macorís to inaugurate works for the new public El Faro beach facility.

He noted that the growth comes despite a wave of flight cancellations from the country’s primary source markets. The 8% uptick builds on a record-breaking 2025, which saw 11.7 million visitors.

Collado emphasized the industry’s consistent upward trajectory over the last several years, noting that the Dominican Republic has repeatedly overcome global headwinds.
