The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) of the Dominican Republic has officially authorized the resumption of regular commercial flights between the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, ending a suspension that had been in place since July 2024.
According to Resolution 24-26, issued during an extraordinary session on 2 February 2026, the JAC approved the reactivation of air transport operations for passengers, cargo, and mail. This move follows a bilateral agreement reached between both governments to restore air connectivity, which was abruptly halted nearly two years ago following diplomatic tensions.
The authorization includes several airlines that previously operated these routes. Venezuelan carriers such as LASER, Avior, RUTACA, Turpial, and RAV S.A. (Venezolana) are slated to return, alongside Dominican-based airlines including Sky High Aviation and Red Air.
Diario Libre reports that the announcement has brought significant relief to the Venezuelan community residing in the Dominican Republic. For nearly two years, the lack of direct flights forced travelers to use costly and time-consuming layovers in third countries, often Panama or Colombia, to visit family or handle essential affairs.
The suspension also paralyzed critical consular services, leaving many without the ability to renew passports or process legal documents. With the re-establishment of direct links, thousands of Venezuelans can now look forward to more accessible travel and the restoration of vital administrative support through reopened consular offices.
