Intrant announces new driver license procedures

The Dominican Republic is overhauling its driver’s license system. Starting Thursday, 26 February 2026, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) will officially launch the new driver’s license, with President Luis Abinader receiving the first one.

The new license is being issued by Consorcio Mobility ID, the new government licenses services contractor. The new driver document incorporates international security standards meeting ISO/IES 18013-5.

If you are planning to renew or apply for a new license, the transition schedule is:
23-26 February 2026: Service is exclusive to the public and private transport sector (bus drivers, mass transit, etc.).
2 March 2026: General public service begin at Phase I locations.
Next two months: Phase II expansion to remaining provinces and additional international consulates.

For those in the capital, these are the primary hubs opening on March 2:

Other Phase I Locations (Provinces & Abroad)
The service will expand from 14 to 32 jurisdictions domestically, and from 5 to 10 consulates internationally.
Offices will be available in San Cristóbal (Punto GOB), Azua, Barahona, San Francisco de Macorís, Higüey, La Romana, La Vega, Nagua, Bonao, Puerto Plata, San Juan de la Maguana, Santiago (Bella Terra Mall), and Valverde.
International Consulates (Phase I)
• USA: Miami, New York (Broadway), Philadelphia, and Boston.
• Spain: Madrid (Av. de Brasil).

Phase II Expansion (Coming in April/May 2026)
Over the next two months, Intrant will roll out services to the remaining provinces including Monte Cristi, Dajabón, Samaná, and San Pedro de Macorís, as well as international spots in New Jersey, Barcelona, Puerto Rico, Brussels, and Zurich.

New “Punto GOB” express centers will also open in Santo Domingo East, Santiago, and Santo Domingo North (Colina Centro).
