The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has placed 10 provinces under alert due to the arrival of a nearly stationary frontal system located north of the country and moving here from The Bahamas. This system is bringing increased cloud cover, moderate to locally heavy rainfall, and cool temperatures typical of winter cold fronts in the region.
The following provinces are currently under alert:
• Yellow Alert (Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Santiago, Espaillat, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Hermanas Mirabal). These areas are on high readiness due to the increased probability of intense downpours and potential urban flooding.
• Green Alert (Santiago Rodriguez, Valverde, Duarte, La Vega): These areas are under caution for expected moderate rainfall and potential river overflows.
The active cold front is significantly lowering temperatures, particularly in mountainous regions like Constanza and Jarabacoa, and is delivering the heavy rains and gusty winds often associated with these winter weather systems. The system is also reported to bring rains all the way to the southern areas of Greater Santo Domingo and Monte Plata area as it moves to the East.
