The RD Vial Trust is financing RD$15 billion in highway improvements

The trust entity known as RD Vial Trust is currently financing RD$15 billion worth of highway improvement projects in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works (MOPC), El Caribe reports. This financing includes remodeling of the toll roads, beltways and boulevards all around the nation.

The Abinader administration reports that since 2021, the RD Vial Trust has executed over RD$50 billion in different projects to improve ground transportation. The money has come from tolls and bond issues, and they are currently the largest investors in the improvement of the country’s highways and thoroughfares.

Nearly RD$6.0 billion is being spent on improvements along the Duarte Highway, the nation’s most important roadway.

The entire project will cost over RD$17.0 billion. Another project is the Navarrete Beltway. Navarrete is the key intersection of the Duarte Highway, where roads providing access to Montecristi and Puerto Plata come together with the main highway to Santiago and Santo Domingo.

The Boulevard of the East and the Beltway for La Otra Banda in Higüey are projects costing over RD$500 million.

The Beltway around San Francisco de Macoris and the highway between Enriquillo and Pedernales are other important projects for the development of major government goals in these two regions.

Last August, the government inaugurated the Bani Beltway, with time savings for those travelling to the Southwest. And then, there is the Ecological Avenue that connects Juan Bosch City with Charles de Gaulle Avenue, Las Americas and the Port of Caucedo.
