32nd edition of Jarabacoa Mountain Marathon set for Holy Saturday

Jarabacoa is finalizing preparations for the 32nd edition of its traditional Maratón de la Montaña MMountain Marathon), a cornerstone of the municipality’s Easter Week sports and tourism calendar. Scheduled for Saturday, 4 April 2026, the event will honor local tech entrepreneur Chris Corcino for his contributions to the community and professional excellence.

The competition, organized by the Jarabacoa City Council in collaboration with the Runners Club and the Jarabacoa Sports Union (UDEJA), is expected to draw over 1,200 participants. Since its transformation into a more inclusive format in 2017, the race has evolved from a high-performance 21K to a community-focused event featuring multiple distances.

The race will commence at 7am at Km. 0 on Avenida La Confluencia, with routes designed to accommodate various fitness levels:
• 10K: For competitive runners.
• 5K: For families and recreational participants.
• 5K Wheelchair: A dedicated category highlighting the event’s commitment to inclusion.
• 1K: Designed specifically for children.

Registration for the event is managed through the SDC Tickets platform (RD$500). The local town government projects a boost to the municipal economy as hundreds of athletes and domestic tourists converge on the “City of Eternal Spring.”

Local leadership and support
The event is now spearheaded by Mayor Joselito Abreu, who, alongside Vice Mayor Alba Yris Rodríguez and City Council President Roberto Ureña, emphasized that the marathon serves as a vital tool for promoting public health and strengthening Jarabacoa’s position as a premier destination for sustainable mountain tourism.

This year’s dedication to Christian “Chris” Corcino celebrates his journey from the rural village of Manabao, where he spent his childhood harvesting coffee, to becoming a leading figure in the Dominican Republic’s technology sector. Corcino is the CEO and founder of Intellisys and the Cincinnatus Institute and is widely regarded as a symbol of personal and professional perseverance.
