Table tennis and gymnastics pavilions ready for Santo Domingo 2026 Games

Preparations for the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 are accelerating following the delivery of two major venues. Last week, the Ministry of Housing and Edifications (Mivhed) officially handed over the fully remodeled gymnastics and table tennis pavilions, signaling a significant milestone in the city’s readiness for the regional event.

Table tennis pavilion
Mivhed Minister Victor (Ito) Bisono delivered the renovated table tennis pavilion located within the Parque del Este sports complex.
The extensive renovation focused on both structural integrity and technological upgrades, including:
• Capacity: Stands designed to accommodate 1,344 spectators, including a dedicated VIP area.
• Infrastructure: Complete maintenance and painting of the roof structure, alongside generalized interior and exterior lighting.
• Facilities: Modernized electrical, sanitary, and data systems; administrative offices, athlete dressing rooms, a gym, a doping control area, and a cafeteria.
• Accessibility & Safety: Implementation of inclusive bathrooms for people with disabilities, a high-definition CCTV security network, and fire detection systems.

Earlier this past week, Mivhed also inaugurated the remodeled gymnastics pavilion, an intervention covering 10,785.48 square meters. The total investment for this facility reached approximately RD$260.3 million.

Key features of the upgraded gymnastics complex include:
• Competition area: A 2,800-square-meter stage equipped with 1,500 LUX specialized lighting, specifically designed to meet international television broadcast standards and technical precision.
• Athlete support: A 1,500-square-meter warm-up area, specialized medical and massage zones for recovery, and separate gymnasiums for children and adults.
• Spectator capacity: Modernized seating for 3,623 people, including VIP boxes and dedicated press areas.
• Technology: High-speed data networks, full electrical and sanitary overhauls, and 360-degree service offerings including a snack bar and inclusive facilities.

Games overview
The 25th Central American and Caribbean Games will primarily take place in Greater Santo Domingo, utilizing and reviving the legacy of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center (host of the 12th Central American and Caribbean Games in 1974) and the Parque Mirador del Este (built for the 2003 Pan American Games).

Both sports areas are undergoing major renovations in time for the games that start on 24 July 2026 and will continue through 8 August. While the official opening is 24 July, some disciplines like water polo are scheduled to begin preliminary rounds as early as 20 July 2026.

The games will feature over 6,000 athletes from 37 nations, competing in 483 events across 40 sports (56 disciplines).
