Albert Pujols named president of baseball operations for Estrellas Orientales

The Estrellas Orientales have officially named MLB legend Albert Pujols as their new president of Baseball Operations. The announcement, made via a press release from the San Pedro de Macoris-based club, confirms that Pujols has already assumed his new executive responsibilities.

Albert Pujols retired in 2022 following a 22-season MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Angels. His stats reveal 703 career home runs (4th all time), 2,218 RBIs, second all-time. He is a 11-time All Star MLB player.

While the Estrellas originally announced Pujols’ arrival in December, his specific role remained undisclosed until now. This appointment marks a significant transition into the front office for the future Hall of Famer, adding a new dimension to his post-playing career as he seemingly prepares for the eventual goal of managing a Major League Baseball (MLB) club.

A rapidly ascending managerial profile
Pujols’ move into the front office follows a highly successful entry into the dugout. His recent coaching credentials include:
Leones del Escogido (2025-2026): In his debut as a manager, Pujols led the Escogido Lions to a championship title in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (Lidom).
World Baseball Classic (March 2026): He served as the skipper for the Dominican Republic national team, guiding the squad to the semi-finals. Team Dominican Republic was defeated by the United States, the tournament’s eventual runner-up.

The executive role with the Estrellas would seem to be a strategic “next step” in his professional development. Pujols will now to return to the field as manager of the Estrellas Orientales for the upcoming 2026-2027 Professional Winter Baseball Championship of the Dominican Baseball League (Lidom) that is scheduled to begin in October 2026.

High worth
The president of the Estrellas, Miguel Feris, emphasized the weight of Pujols’ presence within the organization. “Having the wisdom acquired from one of the most illustrious careers in the history of the Major Leagues is an addition of incalculable value to our organization,” Feris stated.

The Estrellas, based in the southeastern city of San Pedro de Macorís, last won the championship in 2019, when the club was managed by Fernando Tatis Sr. and included Fernando Tatis Jr. and Robinson Canó on the roster, with José Sirí being named the championship series MVP.

The Estrellas have reached the finals in four consecutive years (2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025), but lost all four.
