The Las Americas Institute of Technology (ITLA) announced two specialized technical degrees: Semiconductors and Microelectronics and Digital Animation. The career in semiconductors and microelectronics aligns with global industrial trends. The DR seeks to attract high-tech manufacturing and electronic design. Likewise, the new Digital Animation program aims to bolster the local creative economy and multimedia industry. With these two additions, ITLA now offers a total of 18 specialized technical degrees, further cementing its role as the primary driver of technological vocational training in the country.
The introduction of the Semiconductor and Microelectronics program marks a strategic milestone for the Dominican Republic. It is designed to train professionals in the design, assembly, and testing of advanced electronic components. These are critical infrastructure for Artificial Intelligence (AI), telecommunications, and high-tech manufacturing.
This academic shift aligns directly with the National Strategy for the Promotion of the Semiconductor Industry, a public policy spearheaded by President Luis Abinader to integrate the Dominican Republic into the global technology value chain. The government’s goal is to establish the country as an emerging hub for advanced manufacturing and to attract foreign investment through a highly skilled local workforce.
Simultaneously, the new Digital Animation program targets the growing “Orange Economy” (creative industries). It will focus on 3D modeling, visual effects (VFX), and multimedia production to meet international market standards.
ITLA Rector, engineer Jimmy Rosario Bernard stated that these programs reaffirm the institute’s role as a pioneer, aligning education with global trends and state strategic priorities. “We are preparing professionals capable of entering high-impact industries and contributing to the sustainable development of the Dominican Republic,” Rosario Bernard noted.
Admissions for these new programs are scheduled to open on 11 May 2026. Prospective students can find more details on the official ITLA website and social media channels.
