
The karate pavilion is added to the long list of venues that are ready for the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games that will take place from 24 July to 8 August 2026.
The venue is located in an area of 4,564 square meters at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center covered a total of 4,564 square meters. The government invested approximately RD$182 million in the renovation to bring the venue to international competition standards.
The karate pavilion now has a seating capacity of 2,226 and has been equipped with 1,500-lux lighting in the competition area. The lighting system is at a level essential for high-definition television broadcasting and compliance with World Karate Federation (WKF) international standards.
Key structural upgrades included:
Roofing and climate control: Installation of aluzinc roofing with thermal insulation, comprehensive waterproofing, and preventative maintenance of the metallic structure to prevent corrosion.
Safety and comfort: New fire detection systems, PA systems, and integrated security. Ventilation was also optimized alongside general painting and aesthetic improvements.
Support facilities: Modernized locker rooms for men and women, accessible bathrooms for people with disabilities, a cafeteria, and designated parking areas.
The renovation was the responsibility of the Ministry of Housing and Edifications (Mivhed). Minister Víctor Bisonó emphasized during the handover that the facility does more than just host the 2026 games; it boosts the confidence of Dominican athletes by providing high-performance training environments.
