PriceSmart opens new branch in La Romana to serve growing eastern region

President Luis Abinader attended the official inauguration of PriceSmart’s newest warehouse club in La Romana on Monday, 11 May 2026. This opening marks a significant US$21.1 million investment in the eastern region, designed to serve as a strategic retail hub for the booming urban centers of Punta Cana, Bavaro, Higüey, Bayahibe-Dominicus, and San Pedro de Macoris (Juan Dolio). The chain has been operating since 1999 when it first opened in Santo Domingo.

The La Romana branch is the sixth PriceSmart location in the Dominican Republic and the 57th for the San Diego-based company across Central America, the Caribbean and Colombia.

Strategic location for the East
Eduardo Franceschi, PriceSmart’s senior VP of regional operations, noted that La Romana was selected as the “economic heart” of the East. The location on the La Romana-Higüey Highway (La Luisa sector) allows the club to capture demand not only from local residents but also from the logistics and hospitality sectors driving the economy in the Punta Cana beach corridor.

Facility specs and sustainability
The facility covers a total area of 6,205 m², with 3,972 m² dedicated to the sales floor and 309 parking spaces. In alignment with EDGE certification standards, the building features high-efficiency LED lighting, solar panels and a CO₂-based refrigeration system.

Inventory and services
The club offers over 1,600 products. Approximately 715 items are sourced from local Dominican suppliers.
