Jean Montero is the EuroLeague star

22-year old Dominican guard Jean Montero was officially named the 2026 EuroLeague Playoffs MVP. Montero is a national basketball team player.

He won the award after leading Spanish league team Valencia Basket to a historic comeback against Panathinaikos, overcoming an early series deficit to secure the club’s first-ever Final Four berth.

His spectacular playoff performance, averaging 18.6 points, 5.8 assists, and an efficiency rating of 26.8, earned him the Playoffs MVP and a spot in the All-EuroLeague First Team.

These accolades were added to his historical “Rising Star” award, cementing his status as one of the brightest young stars in European basketball.

The award caps a remarkable individual season for the 22-year-old, who had already claimed the Rising Star trophy and earned a place on the All-EuroLeague First Team before adding Playoffs MVP to his collection. It is only the second time Euroleague Basketball has presented the honor, but Montero made it his own.

Montero came up the ranks in basketball in the Dominican Republic and polished his skills during a NBA camp given in Santo Domingo. He would go on to play in the Spanish basketball system.
