A Presidente beer truck suffered a major accident on the Prolongación 27 de Febrero causing major traffic snaggle, according to a report in El Nacional and social media in general. The flatbed freight truck (patana) loaded with glass bottle beer crates overturned on Thursday afternoon, 14 May 2026, on Avenida Prolongación 27 de Febrero near the Plaza de la Bandera in Santo Domingo and the Junta Central Electoral main offices. The incident resulted in severe traffic gridlock and the loss of a significant portion of the cargo.
Immediately following the crash, dozens of bystanders and motorists swarmed the scene to scavenge intact beer bottles and plastic crates scattered across the pavement amid a sea of broken glass.
No injuries were reported
Transit was heavily restricted for several hours as a bottleneck formed due to rubbernecking and glass and plastic debris blocking the lanes.
Emergency and transit authorities deployed teams to clear the debris, manage the crowd, and restore the flow of traffic.
Footage circulating widely on social media platforms shows the large truck stranded on the side of the avenue, surrounded by thousands of shattered bottles and overturned crates blocking the thoroughfare. The videos also capture citizens actively gathering whatever merchandise survived the impact, carrying away full crates and loose bottles.
The videos later showed a plow clearing the area of broken glass and rescuing several of the surviving green plastic crates.
