The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has extended the deadline for identity card (cedula) renewal until 3 January 2011. The cards due for renewal should have expired on 31 July, but the JCE is not yet ready to issue the new-style cedulas. The new cedulas will contain biometric data, making it harder for forgers to duplicate cedulas.
