Baseball Update

The Leones del Escogido became “City Champs” for the fourth year in a row, defeating the Tigres del Licey 3-0 behind the effective pitching of Joel Carreno and timely hitting by Colin Curtis and Starlin Castro. In San Francisco de Macoris the Gigantes del Cibao defeated the Aguilas Cibaenas 4-2 and tied the Aguilas in the fourth and final play-off spot. The Gigantes played good baseball, highlighted by speed, timely hitting and good base running. The only highlight for the Aguilas was a homerun by first baseman Kevin Barker. In La Romana, the game between the Estrellas Orientales and the Toros del Este was suspended due to rain. The two teams are tied in first place in the standings and they will play the game if necessary to decide the playoffs.
