Too much violence

El Caribe reports on a high number of child abuse cases being treated at the Robert Reid Children?s Hospital, the largest public children?s hospital in the country. Ninoska Isidor Ysmg, spokeswoman for the hospital?s Department for Protection of Children and Teenagers, called the situation alarming. She said that since the hospital began keeping statistics on child abuse cases in August 2001, 69 such cases have been registered, including 48 in 2002. Most of the cases involve children under 10 years of age. The abuses are generally attributed to parents, close relatives and neighbors.
