Forty-two graduate students of the agrochemical-engineering program at the Instituto Superior de Agricultura (ISA) in Santiago completed an intensive study of golf course maintenance. The Central Bank (Definpro) picked up the tab for the training that took place at the Playa Grande Golf Course on the North Coast. The Central Bank owns two golf courses, situated at Playa Dorada and Playa Grande, however, there are more than 20 privately-owned golf courses in the Dominican Republic in need of trained technicians.
The course given to the students provided instruction on control methods for infestations and use of machinery to maintain the greens, among other technical matters. The Central Bank department is also helping the graduates of the course find jobs with the private golf courses.
