Money for farm competitiveness

The Chamber of Deputies passed a US$55-million loan to stimulate the competitiveness of food production in the Dominican Republic. The Proyecto de Apoyo a la Transicion de la Competitividad Agroalimentaria (PACA) will be implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture. Agriculture Minister Eligio Jaquez was present at the session yesterday to await the final vote of the deputies of all parties that endorsed the loan. The terms of the agreement stipulate that the government must contribute US$6 million to the deal, in addition to the US$55 million contracted through the Interamerican Development Bank. The loan had been passed previously by the Senate.
