Jacinto Peynado told El Caribe newspaper that the PRSC is but a hinge of the PRD, the ruling political party. He said that the decision to allow Dominican Municipal League (LMD) secretary general Amable Aristy Castro to be the PRSC candidate to the post again is a clear indication of the close ties of PRSC members to the PRD. The PRD backs Aristy?s appointment.
On Monday, the executive commission of the party voted 34-3 in favor of Aristy Castro.
Former Vice President Peynado had suggested that the party turn down the PRD government offer for a PRSC appointee to hold the top posts at the LMD and the Chamber of Deputies so as to set distance from that party in view of the 2004 presidential election.
?Who benefits from the League and the Chamber of Deputies? Some deputies and some Reformistas that are in the League, but the bases of the party do not. We have become practically a hinge of the PRD,? Peynado said.
