After a meeting with President Mejia yesterday, the leaders of the various transport unions said they would ask their members to maintain their current prices for inter-city travel, despite the recent increases to the cost of fuel. President Mejia offered to include the drivers and transport workers in the new social security package slated to go into effect this year. The meeting between the union leaders and the President was chaired by Interior & Police Minister Pedro Franco Badia, who was also in charge of the Renove program, whereby the union leaders were granted very generous vehicle reposition plans. President Mejia advised the transport union leaders of the difficulties in obtaining sufficient fuel in the face of the Venezuelan crisis, but assured them that the Plan Renove could be continued. Plan Renove substitutes old buses and cars for new ones.
