Maintaining his enthusiasm, Mejia forecast a repeat of the successes of Dominican competitors in the Central American & Caribbean Games in El Salvador. He said that many people are going to have to hold their tongues. The pessimists, he said, will not have to throw themselves over a bridge, but will suffer embarrassment for having partaken in such absurd anti-games campaigns.
